Microcement

Product

What is the difference between Microcement and cement?

The most significant difference lies in their stability. Microcement exhibits minimal expansion and contraction, eliminating the need for expansion joints and allowing for seamless surfaces. In contrast, traditional and polished cement are more prone to movement. Additionally, microcement is applied in thin, flexible layers and offers a wider range of colors and textures.

How thick is your Microcement?

Our Microcement is designed for a thin application, with a final thickness of only approximately 3mm.

What is the application process of Microcement like?

The application process involves applying two base coats of microcement over the existing surface, followed by three colour coats and three protective coats.

What is the typical installation time for Microcement?

Installation typically takes 5-7 days to complete, depending on the project’s complexity and environmental factors such as ventilation, which affects drying times.

How long does it take for Microcement to cure sufficiently for walking?

It takes 24 hours after the last protective layer is applied before you can walk on Microcement.

Is Microcement water-resistant?

Microcement is highly water-resistant when properly sealed, but it’s important to know that prolonged exposure to moisture can still pose risks over time.

Can you apply Microcement in wet areas such as toilets?

No, we strongly advise against applying Microcement in wet areas like toilets, bathrooms, balconies, and wet kitchens. Microcement requires a specific floor gradient for proper drainage, and inadequate drainage can cause stagnant water, staining, watermarks, or mold growth. Furthermore, typical cleaning practices in Singapore, such as scrubbing, can erode the sealant layer, allowing water to penetrate and potentially damage the microcement. Based on our experience, we do not recommend microcement applications in wet areas due to these challenges.

Sustainability

How sustainable is your Microcement?

Our Microcement offers a more sustainable alternative to traditional materials. It incorporates 15% recycled raw materials, and its thin application (around 3mm) means less material is used compared to concrete. Additionally, its production requires less energy than materials like tile, vinyl, or hardwood, and its lighter, liquid form reduces CO2 emissions during transportation.

Maintenance

How do I maintain Microcement?

To clean Microcement, use neutral pH solutions, alcohol, or liquid soap. Avoid abrasive or aggressive products such as solvents, abrasive cleaners, or strong chemicals, as these can seriously damage the Microcement surface.
