Engineered Wood

Product

What is Engineered Wood Flooring?

Our Wood Flooring from Quick-Step is engineered with a three-layer construction, finished with a protective coating. The core layer can be composed of either wood or HDF. Through careful material selection and precise control of the wood’s moisture content during production, these floors achieve excellent stability and durability.

In addition, our Cascada line represents a breakthrough in wood flooring, offering 100% watertightness thanks to a Hydroseal water-repellent coating, which prevents water damage for up to 72 hours.

What's the difference between engineered and solid wood?

The key difference is in the construction: our Quick-Step Wood Flooring is engineered hardwood, consisting of three layers of real wood. Solid wood floors, on the other hand, are made from a single layer of wood. This multi-layer structure makes engineered hardwood significantly less prone to expansion and contraction compared to solid wood.

Can I install a wood floor on top of an existing floor?

This is possible, but it depends heavily on the condition of your subfloor. To accurately assess this and provide tailored advice for your project, we’ll schedule a site visit at your convenience.

Can I use Wood Flooring in my kitchen?

Yes, you can use Wood Flooring in your kitchen. Our “Wood for Life” technology gives the lacquered floorboards a protective layer to prevent dirt and dust buildup. Our Cascada range is even waterproof, making it ideal for kitchens and busy areas. While our Wood Flooring has water-resistance technology to handle spills, it’s best to clean up standing moisture promptly.

What is ‘Wood for Life’?

The ‘Wood for Life’ treatment is a protective layer applied to our wood floors to simplify maintenance. Its primary function is to prevent dirt, dust, and spills from being absorbed into the floor’s grains and joints. This coating is applied in seven layers of protective lacquer, which also enhances the floor’s resistance to wear and tear. Furthermore, the joints are treated with a specialized coating to avoid darkening or discoloration. Cleaning these floors is easy, requiring only sweeping, vacuuming, or mopping. A unique surface treatment minimizes dirt adhesion, and we recommend using a Quick-Step Cleaning Kit for best results.

Is your Wood Flooring waterproof?

Our Cascada line is Hydroseal-treated, featuring a water-repellent coating that allows water to remain on the surface for up to 72 hours without causing damage. This, combined with our improved click system that prevents water from seeping through the joints, makes these floors ideal for any room, including kitchens, hallways, and bedrooms.

Sustainability

How sustainable is your Wood Flooring?

Quick-Step is committed to sustainability in our Wood Flooring production. We ensure that our wood sourcing does not contribute to deforestation by using wood from sustainably managed forests and controlled sources. The PEFC label, one of the most trusted certificates along with FSC, verifies this. To further our sustainability efforts, we use a thinner top layer of wood (from species like oak, ash, and walnut) to maximize yield, and we utilize either waste wood or fast-growing, quickly replaceable trees for the core.

And because our floors are designed to last a lifetime, this contributes significantly to our sustainability goals.

What safety, health, and environmental labels have you received for Wood Flooring?

We apply the strictest criteria when it comes to safety, health and sustainability. To reduce our environmental impact, we employ the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology, which informs our environmental product declaration (EPD). This commitment is reflected in the labels our Wood Flooring has earned:

  • A+ Émissions dans l’air intérieur (French VOC label)
  • PEFC and FSC
  • Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC)

Maintenance

How do I clean my Wood Flooring?

Regular care will maintain your wood flooring’s appearance. Use a microfiber cloth or vacuum cleaner for dust removal. Occasional, slightly damp mopping is acceptable, but avoid over-wetting the floor. To damp mop, dilute one capful of cleaning solution in a 5-liter bucket of water, soak a cloth mop, wring it out well, and mop in a zigzag motion along the planks. Wipe dry with a microfiber cloth.

How do I clean my Wood Flooring for the first time?

Right after installation, your new wood floor may be dirty. Remember that Quick-Step Wood floors are ready for use upon purchase, so avoid using any protective products. Simply remove dirt with a soft broom and dustpan, clean the V-grooves with a vacuum cleaner, and then clean the floor with a slightly moistened microfiber cloth.

How do I remove pet urine from my Wood Flooring?

To remove pet urine from your wood flooring: If it’s fresh, immediately blot it up with a paper towel. Then, clean the area with a moist cloth. If the stain is dry, rub it mechanically with a dry cloth. As a last resort, use a cloth slightly moistened with Quick-Step cleaning agent, applying a generous amount and washing thoroughly.

Why does my Wood Flooring have creaking sounds?

Creaking in wood flooring is often normal and can be caused by changes in temperature and humidity, which make the wood expand and contract. To check if humidity is the cause, use a hygrometer to measure the room’s relative humidity (R.H), which should be between 30% and 60%. If it’s below 30%, a humidifier may help, but allow the floor a few days to adjust. Consistent humidity control is key to preventing this issue.
