Micro-cement, a current global trending decorative material, is a micro-coating composed of high-performance cement, mixed with polymers, ultra-fine aggregates, additives and natural colour pigments.
It adheres to almost all surfaces. For this reason, it is commonly used to cover concrete, mortar, tile, plaster, cement, metal, stoneware, plasterboard or plastic, just to name a few materials. Its great finish, texture and versatility is why micro-cement has become one of the preferred materials for interior designers.
In additional to this, because it is not necessary to remove the existing base material, there are considerable construction cost savings. The old materials serves as a sub-base on which micro-cement is subsequently applied without problem, layer by layer until a thickness of between 2 to 3mm is obtained.
What maintenance does micro-cement require?
This material is very easy to maintain, since it cannot be stained easily if the sealing and waterproofing process has been carried out correctly. However, it is necessary to perform periodic maintenance in order to guarantee greater durability and better amortization of its aesthetic properties.
Simply clean the surface with water and neutral soap will be sufficient. If micro-cement is place on the floor, the key is to renew the protective layer of the material by applying self-polished waxes diluted in water.
Last question – what is the difference between micro-cement and polished concrete?
While micro-cement is a thin coating (approximately 2 and 3mm), polished concrete requires a thickness of between 5 and 7cm. this means the structural weight of micro-cement is significantly lower than that of the polished concrete.
In additional, polished concrete requires expansion joints, a feature that micro-cment does not share. Also, micro-cement can be placed both vertically and horizontally without a problem.
Although the application of micro-cement started a little over a decade ago, in recent years, its use has spread widely throughout the world. This is why we believe this is a trend that cannot be miss out.
